May I take it that the Foreign Office would have no objection to his appointment if the Secretary of State decides upon it?
I wrote to Wellesley about this question on the 8th of June but have had no reply and find on enquiry that he will be away until the end of the month. (Probably my letter has been forwarded to Italy where I believe he now is.)
Yours sincerely,

Dear Wellesley,
You will remember our conversation in September, 1924 and correspondence in lay about the Governorship of Hong Kong The Secretary of State is now considering the appointment of Ceail lementi who has been Colonial Secretary
of Ceylon since November, 1922, to suscoed Stubbs, Clementi
who is one of the ablest men in the Colonial Servise, entered
the Government Service in Hong Kong in 1899 and served there
in various posts with great success, until in 1913 he wAD mada Secretary to the Goverment of British Guiana, where he
did exceedingly well. He is by the way an excellent Chinese
scholar.
May 1 take it tent the Foreign Office would have ne
objection to his appointment if the Secretary of State decides
upon it?
